NASCAR Driver Ricky Gonzalez Competes In Funkmaster Flex Super Series Invitational Race for Spike TV

NASCAR Driver Ricky Gonzalez Competes In Funkmaster Flex Super Series Invitational Race for Spike TV

(PRWEB) August 17, 2004

The feature race, along with behind the scenes footage, driver confessionals and big name personalities from the television, music, sports and entertainment industries will air in late September/October on Spike TV to 90 million viewers. The combination race/reality/entertainment spectacular was seamlessly produced and managed with the joint efforts of RedMoxie and Spike TV.

RedMoxie is a new breed of entertainment company with the knowledge, talent and full-force energy required to reach a diverse audience with innovative, captivating and top-notch programming on premier networks, such as Spike TV and Lifetime TV.

Spike TV, the “network for men”, is a division of MTV Networks that reaches nearly 90 million homes and features the “Ride with Funkmaster Flex” TV series hosted by Funkmaster Flex, a NY radio DJ and automobile enthusiast.

Throughout the event, Flex motivated the drivers and pumped up the crowd as the drama unfolded. The 70-plus drivers battled it out for one of the 30 positions. The 30 starting drivers, including Ricky Gonzalez seemed both relieved and energized as the starting lineup was announced.

Ricky drove the late model racecar owned and driven by Mark St. Halaire, a regular competitor in the Late Model Division at the Waterford Speedbowl’s. Mark and his team provided an exceptional racecar and quick, organized pit stops – not surprising since St. Hilaire racing is currently second place in points for the Speedbowl championship.

Ricky was thrilled to be involved in the race and to support diversity among drivers, team owners, crew and fans of motorsports. “I just want to say that I’m very excited to be a part of the Spike TV family and to have had the chance to compete in the inaugural Funkmaster Flex SuperSeries event.”

Ricky is currently the only Latino driver competing in any of the top three national NASCAR divisions and is working with the NASCAR Diversity Council to enhance the participation of minorities within the sport. Ricky’s most recent NASCAR event was the UAW/GM Ohio 250 Craftsman Truck Series race at the Mansfield Motorsports Speedway on May 16th where he finished 26th without a scratch.

Since then, Ricky raced in two i Power DASH events (formerly the NASCAR Goody’s DASH series) at Ace Speedway in Burlington, NC and The Motordrome in Pittsburg, PA where he finished 9th. Ricky competed in the NASCAR Goody’s DASH Series during the 2002 and 2003 seasons, gaining valuable experience at tracks such as Daytona, Charlotte and Bristol.

For the remainder of 2004, Gonzalez plans to run additional Craftsman Truck races and likely some NASCAR Busch Series events as well. Plans are in the making for several associate sponsors and a primary sponsor for a full season of NASCAR Busch racing in 2005.

Gonzalez is grateful to the sponsors who have helped make his entrance into the upper tier of NASCAR racing possible. Those sponsors include MechanicsFoam.com, Almost Honest Hyper Harry and Sons, AutoEval.com, JoannesKitchens.com, Bell Helmets and Pourmans Pub.

Ricky and the Coqui Motorsports team will also continue their support of The Kyleen and Krysten Hyde Foundation , a not-for-profit organization with special meaning for Ricky, who lost one of his best friends after a long battle with CF at just twenty years old. The KKH Foundation raises funds to improve the quality of life for children living with Cystic Fibrosis. Additionally, future funding will be provide support for CF patients and their families in the form of scholarships and lung transplants

Kyleen and Krysten Hyde, two young sisters for whom the foundation was organized, died from the disease in 2003, just four months apart at the ages of 15 and 18. The girls’ family has close family friendship ties to Gonzalez’ PR agent, Maureen Rafferty. To learn more about Cystic Fibrosis and the KKH Foundation, visit http://www.kkhfoundation.org .

Please visit http://www.RICKYGONZALEZ.com for updates on Ricky’s career, upcoming events and diversity news.

keep your bike clean

keep your bike clean

Most of motorcycles and motorcycle helmets can be cleaned and washed using the same methods that would be used other vehicle though some key points one should remember while cleaning a motorcycle; to protect it from any sort of damage during cleaning.
There are some delicate parts in a motorcycle which should not come in direct contact with water when cleaning, such parts should be cleaned with caution and must be covered for protection against water. These include the seat area, meters, air intakes, any switches or exposed electrical components. Additionally your riding gear like joe rocket jackets should also be maintained with proper care.
Such delicate or sensitive parts should be shielded while cleaning say, with plastic bag. Plastic can offer good protection to prevent water to come in direct contact with sensitive parts. Tape can also be used to make it water-tight and more protective.
Wheels & tires can be cleaned with a diluted cleaner. Selection of brush, soft and stiff bristled depends upon the area of cleaning. Soft bristled brush can be used to remove dirt from parts that are soft or delicate like the body area and mud guards, headlights. Hard brush is used to clean hard surface such as tires. If suitable it can also be used for cleaning your bell helmets.
Firstly tires should be cleaned and then lower and upper areas. When tires have been cleaned then move to lower areas. Lower and upper areas can be washed with a good vehicle cleaner. Cover all areas to ensuring no dirt left. Most important thing here is that don’t let the solution dry otherwise solution will leave spots on bike.
The motorcycle should be washed well to make sure no solution is left on the bike and then wipe the bike with a soft towel to remove water from every part of it. Finally, remove the coverings.
Now, it is time to give final touch. Body parts of a motorcycle can be polished. Avoid cheap polishes. Polish can be applied by sponge pad. Wheels can also be polished if required. Don’t just use single type of polish that is suitable for specific area for all areas of bike as it may not be suitable for other parts. For metal parts of a motorcycle, such as exhausts should be polished with standard metal polish. Screens and side mirrors can be cleaned with a glass cleaner using towel. Any leather on a motorcycle must be cleaned with a good leather cleaning product.

Research and Markets: Military Helicopter Manufacturers in Demand after Losses Sustained

Research and Markets: Military Helicopter Manufacturers in Demand after Losses Sustained

Dublin (PRWEB) July 15, 2005

Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reports/c20715) has announced the addition of Military Helicopter Handbook to their offering.-

In Vietnam, most helicopters that were lost in combat fell victim to fluid loss – oil, fuel, hydraulic fluid and blood. Since then, real military helicopters have been designed with features to make them not bullet-proof but ballistically tolerant and crashworthy. Those lessons, very hard won, informed the design of the Black Hawk and Apache, aircraft which have influenced a generation of military helicopters from wherever dedicated military rotorcraft are built – Italy, France, Germany, South Africa, Russia, Japan as well as the USA. Comanche would have incorporated those lessons too. Sadly, it looks as though the US Army’s new Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter (ARH) won’t because will not be a proper combat helicopter, but a civil aircraft wearing war paint. We have a non-linear battlefield now – everywhere in theatre is now a combat zone, yet it seems that survivability will be sacrificed to save money.

Huge effort has gone into the physical design of combat helicopters to help them survive being hit. No single 23 mm hit should bring a helicopter down, runs the mantra; it must be immune to 7.62 mm fire and tolerant of multiple 12.7 or 14.5 mm hits; transmissions must run without oil for at least 30 minutes; it must get its crew back to base with one engine shot out. What will the ARH’s OEI capability be like? If it’s a 407 or Little Bird derivative, it will be non-existent – one engine is all they have. If it does crash, it must protect its occupants. There’s even a standard that stipulates what it must protect its occupants from – Mil Std 1290 says vertical impacts at changes up to 11.2 m/s and longitudinal ones up to 13.1 m/s.

Most of this cannot be achieved with a militarised civil helicopter. OK, the Bell offering can its lineage back to the OH-58 and Boeing’s to the OH-6 that distinguished itself in Vietnam, both military aircraft but ones designed before the lessons of that war shaped the Black Hawk and Apache.

Sure, you can give ARH stroking seats, armour and airbags and save lives, as has been done with the OH-58D. The OH-6 had a good reputation for crashworthiness and the 407 has its FAR/JAR-27 tickets for which it has to pass occupant crash survival tests, but in terms of fundamental, designed-in battle worthiness, the US Army’s newest combat helicopter will step back two generations. Likely offerings from European manufacturers would be little better in this respect.

Clearly, the ARH effort will be another development programme with its attendant risks of delays and cost escalations, yet there are two fully developed aircraft available practically off the shelf that could do the job. The trouble is, neither Tiger or Mangusta International is American (but could conceivably be made so). Both are true combat aircraft and are fully developed with the risks already taken by foreign governments.

The Australians’ idea of an Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter is a Tiger, but it is probably just too Franco-German for current US political tastes. The Mangusta, on the other hand, may be Italian, but it has US engines (T800s originally developed for Comanche), the same helmet display and sighting system as US Army Apaches (the Elbit, formerly Honeywell, IHADSS) and is qualified to fire US standard helicopter weapons such as Hellfire, TOW, 2.75 inch rockets and the 20 mm M-197 cannon. All that before any specific efforts to Americanise it. Manufacturer AgustaWestland even has very close commercial ties with Bell on the US101, AB139 and BA 609 programmes.

The Military Helicopter Handbook contains a directory of military helicopter manufacturers and associated product/service suppliers from around the world. A World military helicopter fleets guide is included. Sections on world military helicopter airframe specifications, military helicopter sensor specifications, military helicopter helmet mounted displays specifications and military helicopter weapon specifications are all found in this guide.

Simple tips for Buying Motorcycle Apparel

Simple tips for Buying Motorcycle Apparel

Given the fact that motorcycle riding has always been popular with most people, it is hardly surprising that people are obsessed with the right way to ride. Apart from following basic security factors, the right way to ride includes using the appropriate apparel. The rise in popularity has ensured that there is no dearth in the availability of motorcycle apparel in the market today. Both online as well as brick and mortar stores are flooded with a variety of such accessories, making it difficult to choose, especially if you are a novice in this field.

Most motorcycle apparel available today can be broadly categorized as practical, stylish and the third being a combination of both. Needless to say that you should choose the apparel you are most comfortable in but if you are confused then the best would be to go for the stylish yet practical wear. Such apparel not only makes you look trendy but also ensures complete safety from injuries or accidents.

Motorcycle apparel is a broad term that encompasses different accessories like helmets, clothes, chaps, boots and eye wear. It is imperative that you choose the best of each accessory in terms of both quality as well as practical use so that it serves its purpose. Helmets are extremely important head gear and the most popular brands available are Bell helmets, Shoei helmets, Zeus and the like. The common understanding is that helmets are very boring and tasteless, but the reality is that some brands like Bell helmets and Shoei helmets produce a wide array of stylish helmets with graphics and symbols, which make a statement to the world. However, whether you choose a stylish one or a plain one, it is important to ensure that it fits well and is well padded, and good examples of which are Bell helmets, Zeus, Shoei helmets etc.

Similarly with clothes, material is a very important aspect and plays a very important role in the overall comfort of the rider. Traditionally and even today the most popular material for such apparel is leather. Not only is leather stylish and sleek but it also provides excellent security against debris and other particles that hit you while riding. Moreover, in winters, leather, especially with lining or padding can actually keep you warm while you ride. Any clothes made of leather also helps keep out the moisture during rains and keeps you dry. Moreover, apparel for motorcycle riding made out of leather is usually designed in such a way that it is flexible, so that you do not feel it rubbing against your skin while riding.

While choosing leather motorcycle apparel, it is important to understand that there are several kinds of leather available in the market, namely, top grain, full grain, finished split and naked leather. Each type of leather has a different strength, durability and breathability factor, which has to be considered before investing in leather apparel. In top grain leather the imperfections have been removed while in full grain this is not the case. However, in both cases hair has been removed which is not the case with naked leather. Each treatment determines the strength and durability of the material in question, which ultimately leads to the durability of the motorcycle apparel created from it. Secondly, the cost of apparel will also depend on the kind of leather used and therefore, based on your budgetary constraints you should choose your apparel.

Moreover, while buying motorcycle apparel, apart from quality, comfort and size should be the three determining factors. It is imperative that you choose apparel that is neither too loose nor too tight, which in other words means that it is perfectly sized. When riding on a motorcycle for long hours, having the right sized apparel ensures that you are comfortable throughout your ride and that nothing hampers your enjoyment of the ride.

It is pertinent to note that both brick and mortar stores as well as online ones sell motorcycle apparel. However, if you are really interested in quality apparel with a wide choice then it is best to buy from an online store. Local retailers will not have the kind of choice you are seeking and most probably will be very far from where you stay and on both counts an online store is better.

Lastly, buying motorcycle apparel from an online store is cheaper than buying from a retailer because online stores do not have to worry about overheads and other extra costs like the retailer. However, while shopping online it is best to ensure that the site is authentic before providing information about your credit card etc. A simple search will yield you several results for online store but be careful to choose one that is authentic.

MotorcycleCenter.com, one stop shop for all kinds of quality motorcycle apparel and accessories, including Jackets, Vests, Gloves, Helmets like Shoei Helmets, Bell Helmets, Tires and Exhaust, all manufactured by leading brands.

Professional Basketball Star Grant Hill Coaches Parents in MRSA Defense

Professional Basketball Star Grant Hill Coaches Parents in MRSA Defense

Washington, DC (Vocus) September 23, 2010

Skin infections like MRSA, which spread through skin to skin contact as well as contact with equipment and shared items, are the cause of 56 percent of all outbreaks of infectious diseases in competitive sports in the U.S.1,2 – but simple steps parents can take can help prevent the spread. MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) is a potentially life-threatening antibiotic resistant Staph bacteria that has increasingly been found in community and youth sports settings.3

The Stop MRSA Now Coalition in partnership with The Clorox Company and SwapMeSports.com, has teamed up with Grant Hill to launch Equip them Well, a program to help teach families and sports teams about practical MRSA prevention steps, such as washing hands and disinfecting equipment with a bleach solution. Like so many others who have been affected by the threat of MRSA, seven-time NBA all-star Grant Hill understands the importance of prevention, both in the locker room and on the court.

“We need to get more kids in the game with youth sports – but I also know firsthand that MRSA is a tough opponent that many young athletes may face,” said Grant Hill, MRSA survivor and Stop MRSA Now Coalition member. “That is why I am excited about the Equip Them Well program to inform parents and coaches that we all play a part in MRSA prevention.”

Donate Used Sports Equipment and Score a Chance to Meet Grant Hill

In addition to educating parents about MRSA prevention, the Equip Them Well program is committed to providing the resources necessary for kids from all communities to take part in youth sports. Parents can collect, disinfect and donate used youth sports equipment to communities in need through the Equip Them Well page on StopMRSANow.org.

Each family that visits StopMRSANow.org and enters the sweepstakes will score a chance to win a trip to Phoenix for a Suns game and exclusive “meet-and-greet” with Grant Hill.

Equip Them Well – With Simple Equipment Wellness Steps

MRSA is generally spread by skin to skin contact and by touching surfaces that have come in contact with a person’s infection. The following steps can help prevent the spread in community settings:

Scrub up – Wash hands frequently with soap and warm water for at least 15 seconds or use an alcohol-based hand rub sanitizer.
Wipe it down – Use a disinfecting bleach solution to wipe down and disinfect hard surfaces. (1 tablespoon of disinfecting bleach diluted in 1 gallon of water or as directed on label)
Cover your cuts – Keep any nicks or wounds covered with a clean, dry bandage until healed.
Keep to yourself – Do not share personal items, like towels or razors, that come into contact with bare skin.
Use a barrier – Keep a towel or clothing between skin and shared equipment.
Don’t play dirty – Wash children’s athletic clothing after each use, using the warmest wash recommended and adding bleach when appropriate.

All teams know that sports equipment is often shared among teammates. That makes “equipment wellness” another important part of preventing the spread of MRSA in youth sports settings. It is important to:

Regularly clean and disinfect sports equipment like balls, racket grips and bats.
Pay particular attention to disinfecting or properly laundering sports equipment that comes into direct contact with the skin of the players, such as headgear/helmets, mats, and body armor.3,4
Avoid using tape to wrap gripping areas of rackets, bar bells, or to repair rips and tears on other sports equipment. This may provide an environment for germs to thrive and may interfere with the disinfectant process.

Parents can read and download practical prevention steps online at http://www.stopmrsanow.org.

About STOP MRSA NOW

STOP MRSA NOW is a coalition of community members who have experienced first-hand the threat of MRSA and MRSA experts who are committed to working together to reduce the spread of MRSA in community settings and to educate community members on MRSA prevention.

MRSA is a potentially life-threatening antibiotic resistant Staph infection. The MRSA bacteria is carried by up to 5 percent of the population, especially in younger people. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2005, nearly 19,000 Americans died from MRSA infections. During the same year, there were 134 cases of MRSA in children.

About SwapMeSports.com

SwapMeSports.com is a free community website that allows parents to buy, sell, trade or donate used sports equipment. The organization facilitates the donation of equipment to organizations, schools and leagues through its community giving program. All donated equipment benefits the many children who would like to participate in sports but cannot afford to. SwapMeSports.com’s sponsorship of Equip Them Well encourages families and teams to collect, disinfect and donate used sports equipment, while educating them on MRSA prevention.
